Description
This course is for students with a basic ability to speak and understand English and who now wish to focus on their reading skills in their own areas of academic or professional interest. The main course objective is to improve reading skills, but related oral and writing skills are also treated. Various reading exercises and strategies will be presented and practiced (determining the topic and main idea of a text, recognizing different types of argument structure, paraphrasing and summarizing, drawing valid inferences). At the end of the course, students will be able to read and understand English texts in their own areas. Use of instructional technologies in the classroom, in supervised workshops, and in individual and group projects outside of class.
