Objectifs
The overall objective of this course is to prepare undergraduate TESOL students to develop their oral and written academic literacy. By the end of this, students will be able to:
- comprehend different types of texts with which they will be expected to use to create knowledge throughout the programme,
- synthesize and integrate information from multiple sources in written and spoken modalities,
- produce well-structured oral and written texts with similar genres to those used to assess students' development throughout the programme,
- produce texts that maintain academic honesty and transparency,
- analyze the conventions and expectations of different genres used in undergraduate studies.

This course aims to equip undergraduate TESOL students with a critical understanding of undergraduate academic literacies while developing the skills and subskills (e.g., paraphrasing, summarizing, synthesizing, argumentation, referencing and citation styles such as APA) needed to comprehend and produce high-quality oral and written academic texts based on various topics within TESOL and ESL. The course examines the intricate relationships between reading/listening and writing/speaking for undergraduate academic purposes and emphasises the development of critical thinking skills. Through content and genre analyses at both micro and macro levels, students will develop comprehension skills and strategies to produce oral and written texts demonstrating their knowledge. These texts will align with those they will be required to comprehend and produce throughout the program.
