Description
This course is for students with a basic ability to speak and understand English and who now wish to focus on their writing skills in their own areas of academic or professional interest. The course follows a process model of writing, wherein students individually and in small groups will focus on different aspects of planning and composing a written document: forming a concept, doing research, developing a plan, composing a draft, responding to instructor as well as peer feedback through one or more revision cycles, and producing a final draft. This model will be used to compose texts of various types, such as opinion pieces, informative pieces, summaries of academic or professional articles, job applications, etc. The main course objective is to improve writing skills, but related oral, reading, and grammar skills are also treated. At the end of the course, students will be able to compose comprehensible, relatively error-free English texts in their own areas.
